hello world


At the risk of sounding overconfident, I would like to begin this blog by saying “Hello world and thanks for reading!” 

Fortunately, emerging media has taken the arrogance out my global greeting by literally connecting every corner of our planet in ways previously unimaginable. Search engines, web sites, internet ads, social media, streaming videos, widgets and apps are just a few of the connective threads that will be discussed on this blog. Further, the impact emerging media on the market, consumer behavior and culture will be of particular interest. 


In thinking about what all of this new media means and could mean for our world, I think that this Google spot is particularly compelling:  
Indeed, information is powerful and how we use new media will define our generation. 

Additionally, the sheer scope of new media demands that we understand how it can be leveraged. The rapid growth of social media, for example holds important implications for brands getting their message out to consumers. Now, companies not using social media to reach consumers are officially the minority. This makes sense once you realize that if Facebook were a country, it would be the world's third largest.  Check out the infographic below:
